Bring Him Your Best (Matthew 21:1-11)
In the recent sermon titled “Bring Him Your Best,” Pastor Allen shared the profound truth found in Matthew 21:1-11. He reflected on Jesus’s ministry, highlighting His travels through Galilee where He preached, healed the sick, and performed miracles that affirmed His identity as the Messiah. These miracles included feeding the 5,000, walking on water, and even raising the dead. Pastor Allen pointed out that as Jesus approached Jerusalem, a significant shift occurred in how the people viewed Him. Pastor Allen explained that three prophecies were fulfilled during this momentous entry into the city, notably from Zechariah, Psalms, and Daniel, pointing to the mighty work of God.
In his delivery, he focused on Jesus’s instruction to His disciples to fetch a donkey, as recorded in Matthew 21:1-3, demonstrating how this act fulfilled the prophecy that foretold a king coming humbly. Pastor Allen beautifully contrasted the significance of riding on a donkey—a symbol of peace—versus a war horse. As the disciples obeyed Jesus’s command, laying their cloaks over the donkey, it emphasized the importance of obedience in following Christ.
The excitement of the crowd that gathered was palpable as they spread their cloaks and waved palm branches, shouting “Hosanna!” which means “Save now!” Pastor Allen explained that many in the throngs of people expected Jesus to be a political savior who would free them from Roman oppression, fixated on the prophesies in Isaiah about a king. However, he noted the irony that soon many of these same voices would be calling for Jesus’s crucifixion, revealing their misunderstanding of the Messiah’s mission.
As the sermon progressed, Pastor Allen brought attention to Daniel’s 70 weeks prophecy, connecting the dots between history and the timeline leading to Jesus’s arrival and eventual crucifixion. He highlighted how Jesus’s death fulfilled numerous prophecies, showcasing God’s intricate plan for reconciliation and salvation.
In a heartfelt conclusion, Pastor Allen urged the congregation to bring their best to Jesus today. He encouraged them to offer their lives for His service, their hearts for His cleansing, and their prayers for His kingdom. This invitation was not just to come with physical gifts but also with the sincerity of their spirits, longing for a deeper relationship with Christ. Thus, he inspired everyone to reflect on what they could present to God in their unique walks of faith, making it a moment of personal commitment and devotion to serve Him wholeheartedly.
