Easter: He Is Risen (Luke 24:1-12)

Preacher:
Service Type:

In his heartfelt sermon titled “He Is Risen,” Pastor Allen conveyed the powerful truth found in Luke 24:1-12, emphasizing the significance of the resurrection of Jesus Christ. He reminded the congregation that God created the world and infused it with love, compassion, and grace. Above all, he passionately proclaimed the greatness of Jesus, who defeated sin, death, and the devil. Pastor Allen pointed out that the resurrection happened on the “First day of the week,” which set the foundation for Christian worship on Sunday. He clarified that while the Sabbath remains on Saturday, Sunday celebrates the risen Christ, as seen in Acts 20:7 and 1 Corinthians 16:2.

The sermon delved into the early morning accounts of the women who bravely approached the tomb with spices, only to find the stone rolled away and the tomb empty. Pastor Allen highlighted that this empty tomb is the greatest evidence of the resurrection. He addressed common doubts and theories about the resurrection, asserting that such claims were unfounded and that the courage of the disciples following Christ’s resurrection testified to its truth. He emphasized the importance of this doctrine for our faith, outlining how without the resurrection, preaching is in vain, our faith is empty, and we remain in our sins. He also shared seven compelling evidences of Jesus’ resurrection, including the empty tomb, the eyewitness accounts of the women, and the transformation of the apostles.

As Pastor Allen spoke about the message of the angels, he asked an important question: “Why do you seek the living among the dead?” He explained that Jesus is not found on a cross or in a tomb; He is risen! Pastor Allen joyfully stated that every other religious leader has a grave, but Jesus does not. The sermon concluded with a powerful reminder of the hope and promise we have in Jesus, who prepares a place for us in heaven, where there will be no pain, tears, or death. He encouraged everyone to acknowledge their sins, believe in Jesus’s death and resurrection, and confess Him as Lord to receive the gift of salvation. Ultimately, he left the congregation with the assurance that the cross signifies forgiven sins and the empty tomb confirms the defeat of death; Jesus is alive, and heaven awaits all who trust in Him.

This sermon was presented by Pastor Allen Victor at Calvary Chapel West Jacksonville.
