Faith that Works (1 Thessalonians 1)
Presented by Pastor Allen Victor, Calvary Chapel West Jacksonville, Florida
In this verse-by-verse message, Pastor Allen delves into the remarkable story of the early Christian community in Thessalonica. It was here, on his second missionary journey, that the apostle Paul encountered resistance and hardship. He was forced to leave this city after just three weeks. Yet, in the short time he spent there, a powerful work of the Holy Spirit began. Today, we draw wisdom from the book of 1 Thessalonians, a letter penned by Paul during his time in Corinth. This letter serves as an encouragement during trials, an instruction in godly living, and an assurance of our future.
In closing, the Thessalonian church’s model of faith, love, and hope serves as an inspiration to us all. As we navigate the challenges of this world, let us remember to be in the world but not of it, to extend grace and peace to others, and to let our faith, love, and hope shine forth, transforming lives and glorifying our Lord. May the Thessalonian example be a guiding light for every believer.

Message Outline:
To the Church of the Thessalonians (1 Thessalonians 1:1):
We are called to be in the world but not of the world (John 17:14-16).
The problem is not being in the world but allowing the world to enter our hearts.
As believers, we are pilgrims, ambassadors, foreigners, and citizens of Heaven.
Grace to You and Peace from God (1 Thessalonians 1:1):
Grace is the unearned favor of God, encompassing salvation and blessings.
We are saved and blessed through grace, not by our works.
We are called to imitate Jonah’s example in Nineveh.
III. We Give Thanks to God in Our Prayers (1 Thessalonians 1:2-3):
Our faith should produce works; it’s not just words.
There are two types of faith: saving faith and working faith.
Genuine faith produces works, and faith and works walk hand in hand.
Labor of Love (1 Thessalonians 1:3):
Ministry is like a labor of love, just as a mother endures labor pains out of love.
Our motives in ministry should be driven by love.
Loving what you do makes it feel less like work.
Patience of Hope (1 Thessalonians 1:3):
Hope is a powerful force; it sustains us during trials.
Our hope lies in the blessed return of Christ (1 Thessalonians 4:17).
