Who Will Save You? (1 Samuel 19)
Pastor Allen opened the sermon by inviting the congregation to 1 Samuel 19, where he discussed the ongoing conflict between David and Saul. He began with a prayer that acknowledged the freedom and mercy found in God’s presence and expressed trust in God’s faithfulness to complete the good work He began in our lives.
He summarized previous discussions about David’s rise to fame after defeating Goliath and how this led to Saul’s jealousy. The sermon highlighted the strong friendship between David and Jonathan, noting how Jonathan warned David of Saul’s intention to kill him. Pastor Allen emphasized the rarity of true friends, likening them to diamonds found under pressure. The importance of loyalty and support among friends was a central theme, showing that true friendship helps cover each other’s faults.
The narrative progressed as Pastor Allen explained how David continued to serve Saul despite the threats against his life. He urged the congregation to recognize that despite Jonathan’s role in protecting David, ultimately, it was the Lord who safeguarded him. Pastor Allen cautioned against the use of lies and deceit for protection, as exhibited by Michal, David’s wife. He pointed out that while her intentions were good, her actions led to consequences that further complicated situations in their lives.
Pastor Allen discussed God’s providence, demonstrating that despite humans’ attempts to harm David, God’s plan for David’s life remained intact. He urged listeners to trust God during difficult times rather than resorting to deception. This point was underscored with a reference to how David turned to worship as a means of seeking God’s protection and peace, rather than giving in to fear.
In closing, Pastor Allen encouraged everyone to remain steadfast in worship and faith, reminding them that God is always with us and that we can cast our burdens upon Him. He called upon the congregation to prioritize spending time in God’s presence, as He inhabits the praises of His people. The message was a call to trust in the Lord’s deliverance and to engage in worship amid life’s challenges.
