The Foundation of Mountain-Moving Faith (1 Kings 17)

Preacher:
Passage: 1 Kings 17
Service Type:

Before the drought that came upon Israel, the nation was led by its most wicked king, Ahab. In this message from 1 Kings 17, Pastor Allen Victor explained that Elijah’s bold prophecy of no rain was not based on wishful thinking but on the revealed Word and will of God. Pastor Allen showed from James 5 and Deuteronomy 11 that biblical faith rested upon God’s promises rather than human desire. He contrasted worldly ideas of faith with true mountain-moving faith, teaching that faith was not about convincing God to carry out our plans but about believing, seeking, and obeying His will. He emphasized that the power of faith depended not on the strength of the believer but on the certainty of God’s Word.

Pastor Allen continued by showing how God faithfully sustained Elijah through the famine at the Brook Cherith and later through the widow of Zarephath. Although Elijah experienced the same hardships as everyone else, God provided for him in unexpected ways, demonstrating that the Lord always remained faithful to His promises. He reminded believers not to fear economic uncertainty or personal trials but to trust that God would provide according to His Word, even if His provision came through surprising means. He also highlighted that many believers did not lack faith as much as they lacked obedience, pointing to Elijah’s willingness to follow God’s unusual instructions without hesitation.

The message then focused on the widow’s fearful decision to give Elijah her last meal. Pastor Allen explained that genuine faith required overcoming fear and trusting God even when circumstances seemed impossible. Just as God multiplied the widow’s flour and oil, He remained faithful to provide enough for those who obeyed Him. He encouraged believers to surrender their fears about finances, relationships, careers, and God’s calling, choosing instead to trust the Lord regardless of the outcome. Finally, Pastor Allen examined the raising of the widow’s son, showing that Elijah reflected God’s compassionate character rather than condemnation. He concluded with five practical applications: believe God’s Word, memorize God’s Word, pray God’s Word, speak God’s Word, and trust God’s Word even when it did not seem to make sense, because God called His people to faith-filled obedience.

Calvary Chapel West Jacksonville, under the leadership of Pastor Allen Victor, remained committed to the verse-by-verse teaching of God’s Word and the proclamation of the gospel of Jesus Christ.
