Marriage, Divorce, and the Grace of God (Pt. 2) (Matthew 9:3-12)
Pastor Allen Victor continued the study on biblical marriage by examining the leading causes of divorce and the grace of God that protects and restores relationships. Pastor Allen warned that Satan actively sought to destroy marriages, especially during seasons of stress, conflict, and temptation, and reminded the church from Matthew 19 that God’s original design for marriage had always been lifelong oneness between a husband and wife. Building on the previous message about God’s purposes for marriage, he addressed several common causes of divorce, including lack of intimacy, unrealistic expectations, domestic abuse, addictions, incompatibility, financial strain, constant conflict, infidelity, lack of commitment, and ultimately the hardness of the human heart. He encouraged married couples to make intimacy a priority, reject comparisons, love unconditionally, speak words that built one another up, remain spiritually connected through prayer, Bible study, worship, and service, avoid unnecessary debt, forgive quickly, fear God, stay committed, and continually extend grace to one another. Pastor Allen emphasized that marriages drift apart when couples stop intentionally investing in one another, but he also reminded the church that even relationships damaged by sin could be restored because “with God all things are possible.” He concluded by encouraging husbands and wives to regularly affirm their love, grow together spiritually, and guard their marriages against the destructive influence of the “D” word—divorce—by keeping Christ at the center of their relationship. This message was shared at Calvary Chapel West Jacksonville, under the leadership of Pastor Allen Victor.
