He warned that idolatry is anything that receives our trust, devotion, or dependence above Christ and reminded the church to continually ask whether the things they pursue are drawing them closer to Jesus or leading them away from Him.

As he walked through the reigns of Baasha, Elah, Zimri, Omri, and Ahab, Pastor Allen demonstrated how selfish ambition, compromise, drunkenness, and the pursuit of personal kingdoms always ended in destruction. He contrasted building a personal kingdom with leaving a godly legacy, encouraging believers to raise up others rather than cling to positions of influence. He pointed to Samaria as a reminder that earthly accomplishments can become centers of idolatry, while Jesus came to spread God’s kingdom rather than establish an earthly one. Pastor Allen also highlighted the lasting legacy of Chuck Smith, whose commitment to biblical principles helped preserve Calvary Chapel’s focus on God’s Word, the Holy Spirit, and the supremacy of Jesus Christ.

Concluding with the account of Ahab and Jezebel, Pastor Allen warned against conforming to changing culture instead of God’s unchanging Word. He reminded the church that every person will sacrifice something in life, but believers should never sacrifice their children or families in pursuit of careers, success, or even ministry. The message challenged every Christian to build a legacy that points others to Christ instead of building a temporary kingdom centered on themselves.
