Disciple Maker (Matthew 10)
In this message titled “Disciple Maker”, Pastor Allen Victor taught through Matthew 10, showing how Jesus called and empowered His disciples to become disciple-makers. He explained that in Matthew 10:1 Jesus called the twelve and gave them authority, emphasizing that God always equips those He calls. Allen compared discipleship to parenting, describing stages of growth—from watching and imitating, to resisting, to eventually recognizing wisdom—illustrating how spiritual maturity develops over time. He highlighted that disciples are called to follow, while apostles are sent to make followers, drawing from Matthew 10:2–4.
Pastor Allen then walked through the mission in Matthew 10:5–6, noting that the disciples were first sent to the lost sheep of Israel, though the mission would later expand. He challenged listeners to consider their own mission, sharing examples such as outreach to the homeless, single mothers, and a recent trip to the Dominican Republic. In Matthew 10:7–8, Allen explained that the message was the nearness of the kingdom of heaven, and that miracles and acts of compassion were tools God used to open hearts to the gospel. He illustrated this with practical examples like water filters, creative outreach, and medical missions, showing that love often demonstrates the gospel before it is spoken.
Addressing motives in Matthew 10:8b–10, he stressed that ministry should never be driven by money, reminding that “freely you have received, freely give,” while also affirming that a worker is worthy of support. He shared a testimony about a medical mission team serving those unable to pay, emphasizing the role of generosity in sustaining gospel work. Moving to Matthew 10:11–15, Allen taught that believers are responsible for sharing the message, not for forcing conversion, and encouraged discernment when people either receive or reject the gospel.
In Matthew 10:16–20, he warned of opposition, explaining that believers are sent as sheep among wolves and will face persecution, yet are empowered by the Holy Spirit. He identified fear as a major reason many do not share their faith, urging believers to rely on Scripture, available resources, and the Spirit’s guidance. As he continued through Matthew 10:21–39, Allen addressed the cost of discipleship, including rejection, division, and suffering, reminding that following Christ may bring hardship but ultimately leads to true life. He challenged the fear of man versus the fear of God, encouraging boldness in proclaiming truth.
Finally, in Matthew 10:40–42, Pastor Allen emphasized the reward of making disciples, noting that even small acts—like giving a cup of cold water—carry eternal significance. He connected this to the Dominican Republic mission, where practical service, such as providing water filters and acts of kindness, opened doors for the gospel. The message concluded with a reminder that our worth is found not in what we possess, but in belonging to God, and that every believer is called to faithfully follow Christ and make disciples.
