God’s Wi-Fi Friends (1 Kings 14)

Preacher:
Passage: 1 Kings 14
Service Type:

Pastor Allen Victor presented a message from 1 Kings 14 that compared many people’s relationship with God to a “Wi-Fi friend”—someone who only connects when they need something. He explained that King Jeroboam had ignored the Lord, embraced idolatry, and led Israel into sin, yet when his son became gravely ill, he suddenly sought God’s help through the prophet Ahijah. Pastor Allen reminded the church that God desired a daily relationship with His children rather than being treated like a 911 dispatcher who was only called during emergencies. Using Psalm 91:15, he encouraged believers to seek God’s face before they needed His hand and to cultivate a faithful walk with Him before a crisis arrived.

The message showed that although Jeroboam disguised his wife, God had already revealed the truth to Ahijah. Pastor Allen emphasized that no one could hide from God and that genuine healing always began with honest repentance and confession. Drawing from James 5:13-16 and Psalm 139:23-24, he taught that God desired to cleanse the heart before healing the outward condition, because confession addressed the root of sin instead of merely covering its symptoms. He also reminded the congregation that a faithful servant of God spoke the truth, even when it was difficult to hear.

Pastor Allen continued by explaining God’s judgment upon Jeroboam and his household, emphasizing that God’s judgment might seem delayed, but it was always certain. Although Jeroboam’s son died, Scripture revealed that good had been found in him, illustrating God’s perfect justice and mercy. He explained that outward sin revealed the inward condition of the heart and that Jeroboam’s leadership simply exposed what already existed within the hearts of the people. The message also encouraged listeners not to repeat the sinful patterns of previous generations, reminding them that they were never obligated to continue walking in the sins of their fathers.

Turning to Rehoboam and the kingdom of Judah, Pastor Allen described how idolatry and moral corruption spread throughout the nation, ultimately leading to God’s discipline. When the treasures of the temple were taken and the gold shields were replaced with bronze, he illustrated how compromise exchanged God’s glory for judgment. He concluded by urging everyone to remove anything that pulled them away from the Lord, emphasizing that wholehearted devotion to God required putting aside sinful influences before they became spiritual strongholds.

This message was shared at Calvary Chapel West Jacksonville, under the leadership of Pastor Allen Victor.
