The Final Judgment: Times Up (Revelation 16)

Preacher:
Passage: Revelation 16
Service Type:

Pastor Allen introduced the final judgments of God found in Revelation 16, focusing on the bowl judgments that follow the seal and trumpet judgments. He explained how these judgments reflect God’s wrath poured out upon the earth and noted their similarity to the plagues of Egypt, emphasizing the seriousness of idolatry, shedding of innocent blood, pride, and rebellion against God.

In the first judgment, God poured out a bowl on the earth, resulting in painful sores affecting those who worshiped the beast and bore his mark. Pastor Allen highlighted that idolatry means giving worship to anything other than God. He lamented about the prevalent idolatrous practices in today’s society, urging believers to remain steadfast in worshiping the one true God and to guard against misplaced worship that focuses on self rather than the Creator.

The second and third judgments involved the seas and rivers turning to blood, symbolizing God’s judgment against those who shed innocent blood. Pastor Allen pointed out that life is in the blood and that God takes the shedding of innocent blood extremely seriously. He spoke about the many lives lost to abortion and other violent acts, reminding congregants that these cries for justice do not go unheard by God. He called for repentance and reflection, emphasizing that God offers forgiveness to those who seek it sincerely.

Pastor Allen described the fourth judgment, where the sun scorched men with intense heat, and the fifth judgment resulting in deep darkness and unbearable pain. He noted how, despite these judgments, many chose to blaspheme God rather than repent, revealing the depth of human pride. He shared personal anecdotes to illustrate the dangers of holding onto pride and how it can prevent reconciliation and repentance.

The sixth bowl judgment dried up the Euphrates River, allowing armies to gather for the battle of Armageddon. Pastor Allen emphasized the folly of trying to fight against God. The seventh bowl judgment declared, ‘It is done,’ signaling the completion of God’s wrath. He encouraged everyone to reflect on the significance of these events, the urgency of faith in Christ, and the truth that believers are not appointed to wrath but to salvation. He ended the message by reminding the congregation of their responsibility to share the good news of Jesus Christ with love and compassion.
