The Most Significant Moment in Time (Galatians 4:4-5)

Preacher:
Passage: Galatians 4:4-5
Service Type:

Pastor Allen Victor delivered a Candlelight Service message titled “The Most Significant Moment in Time” from Galatians 4:4–5. He began by recalling that on the first Christmas, shepherds came searching for Jesus, and after seeing Him, they made widely known what had been told them (Luke 2:17–20). In the same spirit, the congregation lit candles, sang in celebration of Christ’s birth, and committed to making Him known.

Pastor Allen explained that while Christmas brought many significant personal moments—family gatherings, meals, and gifts—Galatians 4:4–5 revealed four eternally significant truths about Jesus’ birth: the moment, the mystery, the miracle, and the mission. He first focused on “the fullness of time.” He described two kinds of time: Chronos, ordinary clock time, and Kairos, a decisive, history-shaping moment. The birth of Christ was God’s perfect Kairos moment—the appointed time when angels announced His coming, when Mary and Joseph traveled to Bethlehem, and when the Savior was laid in a manger. History itself was divided into BC and AD because of that moment. Pastor Allen asked listeners if they had experienced their own Kairos moment with God.

Turning to the mystery of His birth, Pastor Allen taught that God sent forth His Son, solving the greatest mystery of all: how sinful man could become godly and how God could draw near to humanity. Jesus was both Son of God and Son of Man. As Son of God, He shared the divine nature—Creator, Alpha and Omega, King of kings and Lord of lords (John 1; Colossians 1:16, 19; John 10:33–36). As Son of Man, He shared in our humanity, humbling Himself as Philippians 2:5–8 declared. Pastor Allen reminded the church that Jesus experienced sorrow, betrayal, hunger, fatigue, and temptation (Isaiah 53:3; Hebrews 4:15). The mystery of godliness was revealed: God was manifested in the flesh (1 Timothy 3:16).

He then addressed the miraculous nature of His birth. Galatians 4:4 declared He was “born of a woman.” Pastor Allen explained that the virgin birth fulfilled Genesis 3:15 and bypassed the curse upon David’s royal line in Matthew 1:16 as well as the curse of Adam’s sin traced in Luke 3:23–38. Jesus was conceived by the Holy Spirit, fully God and fully man, without inheriting the sin nature. The miracle of Christmas was that God entered humanity without surrendering His divinity.

Finally, Pastor Allen emphasized the mission of His birth. Jesus was born under the law to redeem those under the law (Galatians 4:4–5). He did not abolish the Law but fulfilled it (Matthew 5:17–19). As the perfect, sinless One (Hebrews 4:15; 1 Peter 2:22), He met every requirement. Like the kinsman redeemer, He became our blood relative, was able to pay our debt, was willing to pay it, and was free from debt Himself. Through Him, believers received adoption as sons.

Pastor Allen concluded that the birth of Christ was the most significant moment in time—the moment God stepped into history, revealed the mystery, performed the miracle, and accomplished the mission to redeem us.
