The Wedding and the War (Revelation 19)
The sermon opened with an exploration of the Book of Revelation, as Pastor Allen explained its divine outline from Revelation 1:19. He highlighted the three parts of the vision John received: the things that were seen, the things that are, and the things that will take place after this. He emphasized the importance of understanding the timeline and structure of Revelation, mentioning the rapture of the church in chapters 4 and 5 and the subsequent events leading to Christ’s return.
Pastor Allen then dove into Revelation 19, where John heard a loud voice from a multitude in heaven proclaiming ‘Allelujah.’ This unique praise phrase, found only in this chapter, celebrated the righteousness of God’s judgments against the great harlot. He connected this to the tribulation saints, emphasizing their ultimate victory and joy as they praised God for avenging their suffering. The significance of worship and collective celebration among the saints in heaven was clearly stressed.
The sermon shifted to the concept of the marriage of the Lamb, where Pastor Allen explained the roles of the church as the bride of Christ. He detailed the ancient Jewish marriage customs, drawing parallels to Jesus and His relationship with the church. He pointed out that this covenant relationship began with a contract, symbolizing our commitment to Christ, and discussed the importance of being spiritually prepared for His return, which involves living a life of righteousness and service.
As the sermon continued, Pastor Allen discussed the stark contrasts between Jesus’s first and second comings. He outlined how Christ’s humble arrival as a servant contrasted with His triumphant return as a conquering king. Pastor Allen motivated the congregation to be ready and watchful, reinforcing that we are currently in a spiritual journey through trials and challenges, yet always hopeful for Christ’s return.
The sermon culminated in the depiction of the final battle at Armageddon and the reality of eternal consequences. Pastor Allen passionately urged the congregation to consider their response to God’s invitation of salvation, emphasizing the urgency and importance of making decisions for Christ today. He shared personal interactions with young men incarcerated, illustrating how differing responses to Christ’s message could lead to vastly different eternal outcomes, ultimately encouraging everyone to choose life in Christ.
