Catching On Fire for Christ Again (Revelation 3:14-22)
Pastor Allen opened the sermon with a heartfelt prayer, expressing our deep need for the Lord in times of pain and anguish. He encouraged the congregation to examine their lives and humility before God, emphasizing that God’s word should challenge and discipline us.
He reflected on the transformation many experienced after accepting Christ, recalling the fervent passion for sharing the Gospel. Pastor Allen posed thought-provoking questions about our current spiritual state, urging everyone to consider whether they were still ‘hot’ for God or had become lukewarm. He introduced the message from the church of Laodicea, emphasizing its relevance to today’s believers.
Pastor Allen described Laodicea’s unique characteristics, such as its lukewarm water supply, wealth, and eye salve production. He explained that the church failed to recognize its spiritual poverty and self-reliance, creating a barrier between themselves and Jesus. The pastor highlighted that true prosperity comes from reliance on God rather than worldly wealth.
The message shifted to Jesus’ condemnation of the church, as they were neither hot nor cold. Pastor Allen discussed the need for the church to turn back to God, urging them to seek spiritual riches and righteousness through sincere repentance. He reminded them that Jesus stands at the door, asking for a relationship with each of them.
In concluding the sermon, Pastor Allen reiterated that the church should not cater to people’s desires but instead seek the heart of God. He encouraged everyone to allow Jesus to fill their lives and to cultivate that passion for Him once more. The call to action was clear: let us open our hearts to Him and rekindle the fire of our faith.
