Heaven: A Sneak Peek (Revelation 21)

Preacher:
Passage: Revelation 21
Service Type:

Pastor Allen opened the sermon by expressing a common love for new things—new gadgets, cars, and experiences. He humorously related to the joy of having a new home, a new baby, and even new relationships. Yet the focus quickly turned to God’s promise of something truly new: a new heaven and a new earth, prepared for His people.

He shared insights from Revelation chapter 21, describing a new heaven and a new earth as seen in verse 1. Pastor Allen emphasized that God will make everything new, erasing the former world filled with pain and death. The purpose of this new creation was to eliminate sin’s stain, starting fresh without the memory of rebellion, referencing 2 Peter 3, which speaks of the heavens and earth passing away.

Pastor Allen continued to elaborate on the splendor of heaven, specifically in verse 3 which highlights God’s intention to dwell among His people. The concept of a restored relationship with God was profound—unlike before, we would have direct access to Him. In verses 4 and 5, he focused on the absence of sorrow, death, and pain, emphasizing that these sufferings would be no more, reflecting Isaiah 65:17 where God creates a new reality.

As the message progressed, Pastor Allen talked about those who will overcome, based on verse 7, indicating that every believer in Christ would inherit the kingdom. He also warned of various categories of people—like the cowardly, unbelieving, and sorcerers—who would not enter heaven according to verse 8. He stressed that while believers have overcome through Christ, there’s responsibility to reject sin and not be ashamed of faith in Him.

In the last segment, he described the grandeur of the New Jerusalem, noting its size and the luxurious materials that would comprise it, including precious gems and gold. He articulated the significance of the city having gates named after the tribes of Israel and foundations built upon the apostles, emphasizing that faith in Jesus Christ is the way into this glorious city. Finally, Pastor Allen reassured the congregation that nothing impure would enter heaven, ending on an uplifting note of hope and anticipation.
