The Afterglow: The God of the Impossible
In this message titled The Afterglow: The God of the Impossible, Pastor Allen Victor taught on the power gifts of the Holy Spirit found in 1 Corinthians 12:1-11, focusing on the gifts of faith, healings, and miracles. He explained that these gifts were supernatural works of God given to ordinary believers so that God could accomplish extraordinary things through them. Pastor Allen reminded the church that spiritual gifts came from God and were intended to edify, encourage, and strengthen others within the body of Christ.
As he examined the gift of faith, Pastor Allen described faith as believing God for the impossible and trusting what God had spoken. Drawing from Romans 10:17, he taught that faith came through hearing the Word of God and was often empowered by the Holy Spirit in moments of great need. Using the account of David and Goliath, he showed how an ordinary shepherd boy trusted God and overcame a giant obstacle that filled others with fear. He challenged believers to identify the giants that often hindered their walk with Christ, including fear of sharing the gospel, serving in ministry, praying for others, stepping out in faith, and obeying God’s calling. He also shared the testimony of George Müller, whose faith in God’s provision inspired generations of believers, along with personal examples of faith demonstrated through missions, evangelism, prison ministry, worship, and outreach efforts that encouraged others to trust God more deeply.
Turning to the gift of healings, Pastor Allen explained that God sometimes empowered believers with supernatural confidence that He desired to heal a particular person. He noted that the biblical expression “gifts of healings” was plural and could involve healing of the body, soul, and spirit. He taught that God worked through both miraculous intervention and what he described as “supernaturally natural” means, including doctors, medicine, dietary changes, exercise, and practical wisdom. Referring to Naaman’s healing in 2 Kings 5:10-14 and Paul’s instruction to Timothy, he emphasized that healing often involved both faith and obedience. He explained that testimonies of healing strengthened individual believers, encouraged the church, and contributed to spiritual growth.
Pastor Allen then explored the working of miracles described in 1 Corinthians 12:10. He defined a miracle as a supernatural event that had no natural, scientific, or human explanation. He reviewed biblical examples such as Jesus turning water into wine, Peter walking on water, and the feeding of the five thousand. He also described how God worked through both ordinary and unusual means, citing James 5:14-15, Acts 5:12, Acts 14:8-10, and Acts 19:11-12. Through these examples, he encouraged the congregation to approach prayer with expectation, believing that God still worked powerfully among His people today. He emphasized that miracles reassured believers of God’s presence and created faith, excitement, and expectancy within the church.
The message concluded with an invitation for believers to seek the filling of the Holy Spirit, walk boldly in faith, and trust God for the extraordinary. Drawing from James 5:13-20, Pastor Allen encouraged the congregation to confess their faults to one another, pray for one another, and minister with expectation as they sought God for faith, healings, and miracles. The church then spent time praying together, trusting the Lord to demonstrate His power and accomplish what only He could do.
