Your Faith, God’s Sovereignty (Matthew 8)
Pastor Allen Victor continues the verse-by-verse study through the Gospel of Matthew in chapter 8, titling this message “Your Faith, God’s Sovereignty”. He explores the tension between exercising bold faith in Jesus’ ability to heal and deliver, while submitting to God’s perfect will and sovereign control. Through powerful accounts—including the cleansing of the leper who approached in humility and faith, the centurion’s extraordinary intercession for his servant (earning Jesus’ marvel and salvation for himself), the healing of Peter’s mother-in-law by sovereign touch, mass deliverances from demons, and Jesus calming the storm—the sermon highlights how faith pleases God (Hebrews 11:6), impresses Jesus, and invites miracles, yet outcomes rest on His wisdom (“yes,” “no,” or “wait”).
Pastor Allen warns against wrong motives for following Christ (consumerism, opportunism, convenience), spiritual pitfalls like occult practices, unforgiveness, Eastern meditation, and drugs that open doors to demonic oppression, and emphasizes true faith as trusting God’s goodness regardless of circumstances. He closes with an invitation to come forward for prayer, exercise faith like the leper (“Lord, if You are willing”), and a gospel call to salvation, echoing the centurion’s “buy one get one” blessing of healing and eternal life.
Ultimately, Pastor taught that our role is to come to Jesus like the leper—with humility—and to pray like the centurion—with confidence in His authority. Healing and outcomes belong to God, but faith means trusting Him no matter what. The simple yet profound prayer remains: “Lord, if You are willing.”
