Overcome by the Blood of the Lamb (Revelation 12)

Preacher:
Passage: Revelation 12
Service Type:

Pastor Allen opened the sermon by reminding the congregation that every day is a battle. He explained that believers fight against three main enemies: the flesh, the world, and the devil. The flesh seeks to draw us into sin, while the world entices us to conform to its desires. Pastor Allen stressed the importance of putting to death the desires of the flesh and embracing the new life in Christ, urging everyone to walk in obedience to Him. He highlighted Romans 12:2, which calls us not to be conformed to this world but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

As Pastor Allen continued, he began to unpack the signs in Revelation 12. He introduced the first sign, a woman clothed with the sun, and clarified that this woman represents the nation of Israel. He provided scriptural cross-references, particularly from Genesis 37, explaining how Joseph’s dreams depicted the symbolism of the sun, moon, and stars in relation to Israel. He also introduced the adversary, a great red dragon symbolizing the devil, and connected his identity to biblical prophecies from Daniel and Genesis.

Pastor Allen discussed the dragon’s aim to consume the male child, whom he identified as Jesus. He recounted instances in Scripture where Satan tried to destroy God’s plans, such as Pharaoh’s orders to kill Hebrew infants and Herod’s decree to slaughter baby boys in Bethlehem. He emphasized that these attacks on God’s chosen were always part of Satan’s agenda to thwart God’s redemptive work through Christ. The message conveyed the unyielding struggle between good and evil throughout history.

Towards the conclusion, Pastor Allen focused on the victory believers have over the devil as outlined in Revelation 12:11. He mentioned that followers of Christ overcame by the blood of the Lamb, their testimony, and by not loving their lives to the death. He stressed the significance of the blood of Christ in granting redemption and the importance of faith in God’s Word. His passionate encouragement inspired listeners to remain steadfast in their faith, reminding them of Christ’s ultimate victory over sin and death.

In his final remarks, Pastor Allen urged the church to reflect on their commitment to follow Christ, no matter the trials they faced. He shared a powerful story about a missionary who stood firm in his faith despite immense personal loss, leading many to Jesus. The message concluded with a call for believers to stand strong against the enemy’s lies and deception, to rejoice in their salvation, and to continuously remember the power they have in Christ to overcome.
