The House God Built (1 Kings 6)

Preacher:
Passage: 1 Kings 6
Service Type:

Pastor Allen Victor taught through 1 Kings 6, presenting “The House God Built” as a powerful picture of God’s unfolding plan from the Exodus to the establishment of the Temple. He explained that 1 Kings 6:1 marked a significant transition—480 years after Israel left Egypt—signaling the end of the Tabernacle age and the beginning of the Temple age. Allen showed how the Tabernacle represented a temporary dwelling of God, while the Temple symbolized His permanent presence, pointing forward to the New Covenant reality where the Holy Spirit permanently indwells believers. He noted the significance of the 480 years, connecting it to the twelve tribes multiplied by forty years, emphasizing God’s perfect timing.

Walking through 1 Kings 6:2–8, Pastor Allen described the construction, dimensions, and design of the Temple, comparing it to the Tabernacle and highlighting its greater size and permanence. He explained the purpose of the vestibule (1 Kings 6:3) as a place of preparation, the windows (1 Kings 6:4) as a means for light to shine outward, and the chambers (1 Kings 6:5–6) as increasing in size the higher they went—illustrating how spiritual richness grows as one draws closer to the Lord. He emphasized how hammers and other such tools were not used inside the structure in its construction to ensure as little noise as possible (1 Kings 6:7), teaching that believers, as living stones, are being shaped by God in ways often unseen. He also pointed to the single entrance and upward progression (1 Kings 6:8), showing the divine order of access to the Father through the Son by the Spirit.

In 1 Kings 6:9–13, Pastor Allen shifted to God’s instruction, stressing that the power was not in the Temple itself but in obedience to God’s Word. He warned against trusting in outward religious symbols—church attendance, possession of a Bible, or even prayer—without genuine obedience, emphasizing that God’s presence depends on a faithful walk with Him.

As he moved through 1 Kings 6:14–38, Allen described the completion of the Temple, including its cedar interior, the Most Holy Place overlaid with gold (1 Kings 6:19–22), and the intricate carvings and design (1 Kings 6:29–32). He explained how the Temple’s beauty and detail reflected God’s glory and pointed to heavenly realities (Hebrews 8:5). He also noted the seven-year construction period (1 Kings 6:37–38), reminding the church that God’s work in our lives is a process that requires time, preparation, and submission.

Pastor Allen then broadened the message by tracing the history of the Temple—from Solomon’s Temple to Zerubbabel’s, Herod’s, and future prophetic temples—connecting them to key scriptures such as Ezra 3:12, Haggai 2:9, John 2:13–22, Matthew 21:12–17, Daniel 9:27, Matthew 24:15, 2 Thessalonians 2:4, Revelation 11:1–2, and Ezekiel 40–48. He emphasized that today, believers themselves are the temple of God (1 Corinthians 3:16; 1 Peter 2:5), and ultimately, in eternity, God Himself will be the temple (Revelation 21:22).

In closing, Pastor Allen challenged the congregation to consider their own spiritual condition through scriptures like 1 Corinthians 3:17 and 1 Corinthians 6:19, asking whether they were allowing God to complete His work in them. He described the stages of spiritual construction—justification, sanctification, and glorification—encouraging believers to submit to God’s ongoing work as He builds a holy dwelling within them.

This message was shared at Calvary Chapel West Jacksonville, under the leadership of Pastor Allen Victor.
