You Alone are Worthy (Revelation 5)
Pastor Allen opened the sermon, inviting the congregation to turn to Revelation chapter 5. He introduced the theme of the message with the title ‘You Alone Are Worthy,’ which underscored the worthiness of Jesus in the context of redemption.
He reflected on the current struggles many face, highlighting the overwhelming debt and financial burdens affecting countless people. He likened the state of humanity to that of Adam and Eve, who faced a form of bankruptcy after falling into sin. By equating spiritual debt with sin caused by Adam’s actions, Pastor Allen elaborated on the impacts of sin on not just individuals but the entirety of creation.
Transitioning to Jesus as the Second Adam, Pastor Allen explained that while Adam lost the title deed to creation through sin, Jesus came to redeem both humanity and the earth. He referenced Romans 8:18-21, describing how all creation longed for liberation. In Revelation 5, he noted the significance of the scroll held by God, which symbolizes the rightful authority over creation that had been lost.
Explaining the role of the kinsman redeemer from the Old Testament, he illuminated how Jesus fit this description. Emphasizing that for one to redeem, they must be a close relative, able to pay, and willing to do so, he pointed out that Jesus, as both God and man, fulfilled all requirements. This powerful point emphasized Jesus’ unique position in redemption and his qualifications to right the wrong caused by sin.
As the sermon progressed, the scene shifted to worship in heaven. After Jesus took the scroll, the congregation witnessed a beautiful picture of worship, where all of heaven erupted in praise. This included every creature acknowledging the worthiness of Jesus, culminating in the declaration that he is worthy of blessing, honor, and glory. Pastor Allen encouraged the congregation to worship God, even in difficult times, reinforcing that every prayer would eventually be answered by God, whether in this life or the next.
